Egg donation in Greece

Lots of people travel abroad for medical treatment nowadays. And there are many IVF clinics throughout Europe offering fertility treatment. So why choose to have egg donation in Greece?

Egg donors in Greece

All egg and sperm donors are anonymous, by law in Greece. As a result, large numbers of donors are available eliminating long waiting lists for treatment. So, most likely, your egg donation treatment can start straight away once a suitable donor is found.

Due to the anonymity law, only non-identifying information can be given to a recipient. However, you will have access to the physical characteristics of the donor as well as the age, country of origin, and level of education.

Greek law states that egg donors are thoroughly screened for infectious diseases and are only allowed to donate once certain blood tests have been completed. These include HIV, syphilis, Hepatitis B and C. However, some IVF clinics will screen further to ensure your safety.

Egg donors at Newlife IVF center

At Newlife, for example, we undertake additional investigations. We investigate:

  • Family, sexual and psychiatric history
  • Substance and drug abuse history
  • Blood group, Rhesus status and b-Thalassaemia and sickle cell disease trait.
  • Karyotypic abnormalities (genetic abnormalities) and Cystic Fibrosis.

Furthermore, all of our donors are younger than 30 years old and of proven fertility which means that they already have had a pregnancy of their own. So you can be assured that having your donor egg IVF treatment at Newlife is as safe as it possibly can be.

High egg donation success rates in Greece

Due to the fact that there are many young women willing to donate their eggs, success rates for egg donation in Greece are high. At Newlife, we are proud of our egg donation success rates as they are well above the average reported by ESHRE for IVF clinics in Greece. We use the most sophisticated equipment and keep up-to-date with any new developments in fertility so that we can provide the best service to our patients.

Low cost egg donation treatment

Greece is a very low cost option for egg donation treatment. If you compare it to the price of treatment in the UK and USA you will see that costs are significantly lower. Donor IVF in the USA costs around $35,000 including travel. This about 3 times more than what it would cost in Greece including travel.

A donor egg IVF cycle using fresh eggs in our clinic costs 6000 euro. This includes everything, apart from the cost of the medications for the preparation of the recipient and the cost of surplus embryo freezing. In some countries, for example Canada, these medications are covered 100% by the patients insurance.

This cost includes:

  • The donor's compensation
  • The donor's medications
  • The donor's screening
  • The donor’s egg retrieval
  • All laboratory procedures including ICSI
  • Embryo culture up to day 5 (blastocyst stage), if this is deemed necessary
  • The recipient’s medical needs at the IVF unit

Low cost travel and accommodation

The cost of living in Greece is lower than in other countries in Europe. So whilst there are additional costs if you travel abroad for fertility treatment, these are quite low, particularly in Thessaloniki. Travel costs can be greatly reduced if you have your treatment in the off-peak season.

Furthermore, we at Newlife try to ensure that your stay in Greece is as efficient as we can make it so that we keep your costs down. Our egg donation process for our international patients is designed to ensure maximum success at a minimum cost.
